From Erik Wander, your About Food Editor
Take a couple slices of any kind of bread; put one or more cooked or uncooked ingredients between them, and what have you got? John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich and eponymous inventor (or at least early eater), could have told you. But he probably couldn't have imagined how important it would become.

Mouthwatering Moroccan Sandwiches

Dutch Smoked Salmon Sandwich
Nobody likes the sandwich, or broodje, like the Dutch do. The egg salad sandwich with tarragon and cream cheese, chives and celeriac sandwich are two good examples, but nothing's better than this deceptively simple sample.

Much More than Great Grilled Cheese
For busy cooks or really anyone who needs to whip together a quick meal, you can't beat grilled cheese. But make no mistake, these aren't just any grilled cheese sandwiches; they include ingredients like Gruyere, bacon, avocado, pesto and pickles (not necessarily all together).

Perfect Patty Melt
This one's a classic, along with its cousin, the tuna melt. But if you're going to give it a go, beware: our expert has some rules. Among them, no caramelized onions and no baby Swiss. Gruyere and Emmentaler, however, are encouraged.
