From Kim Knox Beckius, your About Travel Editor
Greetings, Travelers! There's a chill in the evening air here in New England, and summer days are slipping away. Here's a tip, though: September is a phenomenal month to travel, particularly if you're a Jane Austen or tennis fan or if you want to see what's behind London's usually closed doors. ~Kim

Celebrate Bath's Most Famous Resident
Jane Austen was Bath's most famous resident, and her novels and their television and film adaptations probably inspire more travelers to see this storied English city than the fabulous Roman Baths themselves. Each September, Bath honors Austen with a nine-day festival featuring Regency promenades and other costumed events, plus performances, street fairs and more literary diversions.

September is a popular time for weddings, and that means many couples celebrate anniversaries during one of the best months for a romantic escape. When kids and college students hit the books and temperatures cool, attractions aren't crowded (but they haven't closed yet), and rates are down from summer highs. Festivals Make September THE Month to Visit Germany
Oktoberfest in Bavaria, which gets underway September 21, is the highlight of the German festival calendar. It's far from the only reason, though, to book a trip to Germany next month. Wine fests and other autumn celebrations are also on tap. Here's your guide to the best September festivals in Germany.

You'll Love Paris in September
September is one of the best off-peak times to visit Paris. The laid-back, summer-vacation ambiance lingers around the city, but most Parisians are back in town, creating an interesting mix of fun and authenticity. The weather is just as nice, if not nicer, than during the summer months, and airfares and hotel rates begin to dip. September in Paris can also be an ideal time for experiencing a Seine River cruise.
