From Colleen Graham, your Guide to Cocktails

Welcome to the first round of cocktails in the 2013 12 Days of Cocktails series. I have a great and diverse line up of drinks to share this year and I think you will enjoy exploring the collection and sharing them at your holiday gatherings. Each of the twelve recipes were created by talented mixologists working behind some of today's top bars, nothing contrived or ordinary here, but also nothing too extraordinary that it's impractical to make at home. Also, these drinks are included in the respective venue's holiday drink menu, so if you see a bar that's near you, stop in and enjoy that drink straight from the source.

In other news, the New Year's Cocktail Contest is still open for entries and the December 20th deadline is approaching fast. Submit your recipe and explore the current entries here...

Day One... Caramel Irish Coffee
Caramel Irish Coffee

The Caramel Irish Coffee is currently being served up at Haven Rooftop at Times Square and is a nice rendition of the classic Irish Coffee. To make it, you'll simply add a little Baileys and butterscotch schnapps, then top it all with a caramel drizzle. Yum! Get the recipe...

Day Two... Texas Farm Nog
Texas Farm Nog

Tequila eggnog? Oh, yeah! This recipe comes from Amber West at Dallas' Central 214 and it is a fantastic eggnog that may even appeal to the most anti-nog of drinkers. Sherry and a selection of holiday spices are also in the mix, but you will need to let it set for two days for the best results, so plan ahead. Get the recipe...

Day Three... Holiday Spirit
Holiday Spirit

If you are looking for a unique tasting drink to quickly mix up at your holiday party, this is a perfect option. It comes from Sweet Hospitality Group, specialists in catering to premier events, so you know it's going to be a fast mix. You'll start by prepping a cranberry-fig shrub a day or two in advance, then come party time, just add it to a mix of rum and port and top it off with spicy ginger beer and seltzer. Day Four... Christmas Clementine Pomander
Christmas Clementine Pomander

A fun drink from KTCHN Restaurant in NYC, this spectacular fruit cocktail has a surprising twist that is not normally associated with the holidays. Mezcal is the star of this cocktail and its smoke is fantastic against the citrus and mint. The pinnacle of this one is the aromatic garnish of a clove-studded clementine. Get the recipe...
