Stories & Parties

Happy 2014! I hope that everyone enjoyed their parties this week and that by now you have recovered and are looking forward to the new year. I have many plans for About.com Cocktails in 2014 and am excited to share those over the coming months. To start things off, we're going to play with a little whiskey in this month's contest. Have fun, Cheers!

Cocktail of the Week: The Brogue
The Brogue

Let's face it, many of us are in the deep grips of winter and it's nothing short of frigid outside. While Scotch is a natural compliment to such conditions, a touch of warmer days is a always welcome and that is what I love about this cocktail. It mixes Highland Park 12YO Scotch with Drambuie and a little lemon, but it is the lavender honey syrup that finishes it off nicely and adds a light herbal touch that is quite comforting. January Cocktail Contest: Whiskey

Candy AppleyWe are going to kick off this new year with an easy, very open cocktail contest and all you need is a shot of whiskey to participate.

In the past, we have focused on the various styles of whiskey, but there has not yet been a cocktail contest that encompassed whiskey as a whole, so here it is. Bourbon, Scotch, Irish, Canadian, Tennessee, blended, and all of the world's whiskies that do not fall into these well-defined categories are available to you in this contest. My only requirements are that whiskey be one of the ingredients and that the drink be original. Beyond that, I leave the cocktail to your imagination and skills.

The deadline is January 26th, so you have plenty of time to play with your favorite whiskey. Submit your whiskey cocktail here...
