From Amanda Rock, your About Parenting Editor
We were walloped with over a foot of snow yesterday, so my kids were home from school. We had a few offers to get together with friends, we we had a decision to make. While sitting in a warm movie theater munching popcorn was incredibly tempting, we decided to hit our local hills for some sledding instead. While we were much colder and a bit sore at the end of the day, I definitely think we made a good choice.

Keep Kids Active in Cold Weather
When we were trying to decide between the movies or going sledding, my 13-year-old was definitely leaning towards catching the latest flick. But as Wayne explains, while it can be hard sometimes to get kids to head outside when it is cold, doing so will benefit them in the long run. (And as it turns out, it was my teen who didn't want to go home in the end!)

Winter Activities for Young Children
My four-year-old son couldn't wait to get out the door, but I was hesitant because he is a little guy and I was worried about keeping him warm. Once I bundled him up though, he had a great time and didn't want to come in. If you are looking for activities for your toddler or preschooler, check out these ideas from Rick and Annie.
