From Tim Hyland, your About Spectator Sports Editor
It's been a brutal winter, folks. I mean, brutal. So brutal that I've begun to wonder if summer will ever actually arrive.

But I've been assured that it will. And when it does, we will once again have baseball. Glorious, glorious baseball.

We'll take a look ahead to the baseball season to come--and a whole bunch more--in this week's About.com Spectator Sports Newsletter.

2014 Fantasy Baseball Rankings
Miguel Cabrera and Mike Trout have finished first and second, respectively, in the American League MVP race the last two seasons. This will mark the second consecutive season Cabrera and Trout are 1-2 in a different race--the consensus top overall selections in fantasy.

Will Russell Westbrook Hurt Kevin Durant's MVP Run?
Russell Westbrook plans to return to the basketball court on February 20th when the Oklahoma City Thunder take on the Miami Heat. But will he do more harm than good for a team that has went 19-7 without him?

Mizzou's Sam Comes Out
Former Missouri defensive lineman Michael Sam--an All-American for the Tigers and the SEC defensive player of the year last season--announced on Sunday night that he is gay. Given that he is projected to be an early-round draft pick in this spring's NFL Draft, the announcement means that Sam is almost certain to become the NFL's first openly gay player.

Johnny Manziel, Jimmy Graham and Next Year's Champion
We are entering the NFL rumor season. This always follows the lull between the climactic Super Bowl--anticlimactic in this case--and the college draft in May. It is sometimes the most entertaining of all the NFL seasons.
