While this can easily mean packing in the calories with meat, mayo, and dip, there’s also a plethora of ways to get your cookout on without spending your Monday off in the throes of a food coma. Nosh on a fresh-made veggie burger to sneak in needed nutrients, or grill fresh fish or vegetables to cut the grease factor. Or, opt for sliders to satisfy cheeseburger cravings without going overboard.

Skip the potato salad and opt for sides that make the best use of seasonal summer produce. Mayo-free chicken salad, fruit salads, and salads with plant-based proteins such as almonds and farro will all fill you up with good-for-you stuff.
