Next week we will be celebrating the Fourth of July with a nice long weekend. With three days to celebrate, there are plenty of opportunities for food, family, fun, and of course, fireworks.

How do you spend the 4th of July? Generally, we stay close to home, with an occasional road trip to see some fireworks. If you are hosting a gathering this year, or going to a party somewhere else, try some of these activities from Christine to really get the celebration going.

Fireworks Safety

If setting off fireworks is part of your July 4th fun, it is important that you take safety precautions, especially if there will be children around. Dr. Iannelli shares some startling facts and figures about kids setting off fireworks and explains the best way to keep children safe.

Fourth of July Recipes Families Will Love

We haven’t completely ironed out our plans for July 4th , other than that we will be staying home, most likely entertaining a few guests. My husband will probably barbecue, while I’ll whip up some side dishes. Some of these 4th of July recipes from Stephanie will definitely be on our menu (can’t wait to try her hamburger recipe)!

Children's Books that Celebrate America

It can be hard for children, especially younger ones, to understand the meaning behind the Fourth of July. Elizabeth shares some of her favorite books that do a great job of explaining our country’s history, from the Statue of Liberty to the Constitution.
