|  | The calendar turns to September and that means that it is time for bourbon. It's National Bourbon Heritage Month, an official designation that came to being just a few years ago and it is meant to celebrate the history and characters surrounding America's Native Spirit. If you're interested in joining the party, there is one place you should be this month and that is Bardstown, Kentucky for The Kentucky Bourbon Festival, which runs September 16-20 this year. This little town is the Bourbon Capitol of the World, home to some of the best bourbons you will find, and a fun place to visit. While the drink begins all nice and sweet, things get a little more interesting rather quickly. It is Newman's Chipotle-orange syrup that adds a great contrast, brings in an unexpected layer of flavor, and finishes the drink of to perfection and the syrup is very easy to make. | Distinguishing Whiskies All whiskey is not created equal and it goes beyond simple standards of quality. To really understand whiskey, you need to compare the aspects of each style and it all begins in the distillery. It is the techniques that distillers employ in the still house and barrel and blending rooms that distinguish Scotch from Irish whiskies, Canadian from bourbon and rye, and gives each style its own characteristics that are relatively universal across brands.
