| | As promised, Scotch season is officially open and I have a couple of new releases that I'm excited to share today. The latest from Mortlach and Johnnie Walker are now hitting shelves and if you see any of these bottlings, you will want to pick them up. Also this week, I'm excited to share the winning vodka cocktail. It is a sweet little drink that puts a smile on your face and is one you won't want to miss. Until next time, Cheers! Last month's cocktail contest theme was vodka and after careful deliberation, I'm happy to announce that Las Vegas bartender, Cory Mendonca, had the recipe that tickled our palates to perfection. The drink begins with a great name, "For The Record," and continues with a fascinating mix of citrus vodka, elderflower, pomegranate, and a fun strawberry-lime cider, which quickly became a new favorite on its own. Get the recipe... I also have to extend a big thank you to everyone who participated, it is a great collection of drinks that I encourage everyone to explore. The vodka cocktail contest... | A Must-Drink Scotch: Mortlach If the name Mortlach means little or nothing to you, take note and treat yourself by seeking out one of these great single malt Scotch whiskies. Hailing from Speyside, the Scottish region known for the most elegant whisky, Mortlach has taken on a complete overhaul of their portfolio and the much anticipated release took place just a few months ago. I recently had the opportunity to taste the three U.S.-bound expressions and it is some of the best Scotch I've had to date. My favorite of the lot? Without a doubt, the 25 Year Old, but with a $1000 price tag it should be outstanding. The good news is that their younger (and less expensive) bottlings are very tasty as well, so there's something for every level of connoisseur. Read the full review... Photo Credit: Mortlach
| Johnnie Walker's Latest: Gold Label Reserve To be fair, both Mortlach and Johnnie Walker are owned by Diageo and both brands have taken on a major revamp. The new Johnnie Walker portfolio has rolled out over a few years and the new look is now complete with last month's release of Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve. Replacing the previous Gold Label 18, this new addition is a nice, sweet sipper that is in the affordable range, just between Double Black and Platinum. While some may balk at mixing a $80 Scotch, it is quite fabulous in simple, refreshing cocktails with light, complimentary flavors and my favorite of the lot is this Fields of Gold recipe... | Submit to the Gin Cocktail Contest One thing that I've noticed in the last week is that my readers really love gin! Seriously, there has been such an influx of fabulous gin cocktails submitted to this month's contest that I'm having a hard time keeping up and I thank each of you for sharing. There is still plenty of time to share your recipe as the deadline is not until the 24th and I encourage everyone to browse the current submissions because they are an impressive lot.
