From Colleen Graham, your Guide to Cocktails

Spring is officially here! Today I am in the mood to celebrate this very happy occasion by sharing some of my favorite cocktails that will have you shedding those winter blues in no time.

Also this week, Sunday is last call for the two current opportunities for you to participate. Both the 2014 Readers' Choice Awards and the Savory Cocktail Contest are winding down and Sunday is the last day to submit to both. More on that below.

Enjoy the first days of the season, Cheers!

Cocktail of the Week: El Pepino
El Pepino Cocktail

Few cocktails are as fresh and refreshing as this one. You may call it an enhanced Margarita as it begins similarly, though when you add fresh cucumber and cilantro along with a little egg white you will have an entirely new cocktail that is something to marvel at. Get the recipe...

The Spring Cocktail Menu
Cherry Lane Cocktail

The signs are everywhere, spring is finally in sight and, beyond many other things, it is time to switch out our drink routines. For spring we tend to go with light, refreshing cocktails that are filled with the tastes of the season and there are plenty of recipes to choose from. These are a few of my personal favorites.

Cherry Lane (pictured) - Made with one of the few cherry vodkas that do not remind me of cold season, this is a lovely transitional cocktail that doesn't rely too much on fresh ingredients, but leaves you with the feeling of the season anyway. Grey Goose Cherry Noir and Benedictine are the stars of this drink.

Herb's Mary Rose Martini - This fun 'tini' is worth every moment of the week's anticipation that the rosemary-infused vodka requires. Once you get through that, simply shake it up with creme de cassis and cranberry juice, topping it off with soda for a little sparkle.

Good Luck Charm - If dark spirits are your thing no matter what the season, here is a springy bourbon drink that is a perfect transition. It mixes bourbon with lemoncello, sour, and fresh mint and it is every bit as delicious as it sounds.

10 Great Cocktails for Spring - Whenever one of these drinks are in front of me I am instantly transported to the warming days of this season of rejuvenation. Fresh herbs and seasonal fruits fill these drinks with that perfect spring accent.

Savory Cocktail Contest Deadline
Smoke and Spice and Everything Nice

The first of the two deadlines this week is the monthly cocktail contest. This month we are taking on 'savory cocktails' and, essentially, every drink that is not sweet is fair game. Get your recipe in by Sunday the 23rd or it will be too late. Submit your savory cocktail here...
