| | Last week I touched on the Moscow Mule craze and this week we're going to look at another cocktail trend and its one that comes and goes every few years. It seems as if Wasabi Martinis are coming back again and, though they are definitely not for everyone, they are fun for those who like a little adventure. There are also a few drink 'holidays' coming up this week (including today!) and I hope you enjoy. Cheers! Follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and now Pinterest. | | Cocktail of the Week: Cucumber Wasabi Martini This is my preferred wasabi drink because there is a lot to enjoy inside and it has a great refreshing spice profile that I tend to gravitate toward. In it you will mix gin (Hendrick's is perfect) with wasabi and cucumber, which are surprisingly perfect compliments to each other. The result is a summer-fresh, sweet-sour-spicy cocktail that tantalizes the taste buds and is a real adventure. Get the recipe... Photo Credit: Bill Boch / Photolibrary / Getty Images
| Two Wasabi Martinis with Vodka Vodka is the more popular way to go with wasabi cocktails and here are two examples. First up is the Wasabi Martini, a very basic mix of vodka, wasabi, lemon, and syrup. It has a nice balance and a clean, spicy flavor that is a fun experience. Wasabi Martini recipe... Next up is a recipe from the wheat-based Cape North Vodka. The Cape Samurai is a spicy little mix and brings in a touch of rose syrup along with ginger (another natural companion to wasabi). It is a very fun drink with some fascinating contrasts that I think you will enjoy. Cape Samurai recipe... Photo Credit: Shannon Graham
| National Pina Colada Day July 10th is National Pina Colada Day and it is a great excuse to revisit and enjoy one of the favorite rum cocktails of all time. Before you run to the store for a bottled colada mix, check out how easy it is to make from scratch: shake rum, pineapple juice, and cream of coconut, strain and drink. Really, it's that easy! | National Mojito Day Following right on the heels of the Pina Colada, July 11 is the day to celebrate another great rum cocktail, the Mojito. This is a fun cocktail to experiment with: switch to a flavored rum, add some fresh berries or other fruits, or top it off with ginger ale or even sparkling wine. Some drinkers even prefer to go with vodka and that's perfectly fine as long as you enjoy what you're drinking. Get the recipe... We're not quite done...
