From Colleen Graham, your Guide to Cocktails
We're only one week into October and there is so much going on. The tea cocktail contest has been decided, the vodka contest continues, and, yes, this week we are talking pumpkins and all the delicious drinks that you can make them. Next week I have a Breast Cancer Awareness drink or two to share, we'll begin our Halloween party planning (links on the right for a head start), and I have some new spirits to talk about as well. Until then... stay safe, have fun, and Cheers!

Tea Contest Winner: Gunpowder Gimlet
Apple Cider Martini

I have a very special cocktail to share this week and it deserves top billing. It is the Gunpowder Gimlet created by Pasadena bartender, Ben Carpenter, and it is the winning recipe in last month's tea cocktail contest. The drink is fabulous, mixing green tea-infused gin with a innovative pistachio honey syrup, lemon, and chamomile bitters and it is a taste experience you will not want to miss. Get the recipe...

Pumpkin 'Tinis
Pumpkin Martini

And it begins... it is time to pull out all of those great pumpkin cocktails because we do love pumpkin everything, now don't we? Where just a few years ago we had to scrounge to find a good pumpkin martini, we now have too many to count and if you are into pumpkin, then many of these should be just the thing you're looking for. A few use pumpkin vodka or liqueur (which are now also readily available) while others opt for pumpkin butter, spice or puree. Get the recipes...

More Pumpkin Concoctions
Pumpkin Old-fashioned

A great pumpkin-flavored cocktail is not limited to 'martinis,' however. There are a number of equally impressive drink recipes that go another route. The Pumpkin Shandy features pumpkin ale with pumpkin butter, the Jack-o-Lantern Punch uses toasted pumpkin seeds, and I will forever love The Great Pumpkin, which begins with a pumpkin-infused Scotch. One of my favorites is the simple Pumpkin Old-fashioned that mixes pumpkin puree and maple syrup with a great bourbon. There are more: browse all of the pumpkin cocktails...

Open Contest: Vodka Cocktails
Apple Cider Martini

Vodka is the theme of the October cocktail contest and there is still plenty of time to email me your recipes. The deadline is the 26th, but don't wait until the last minute! Submit your recipe...
